Internationally recognized author, therapist, and activist Dr. Makungu M. Akinyela returns to his hometown of Los Angeles to share his powerful new book, Culture, Politics, Spirituality and Practice: A Book of Resistance and Critical Theory for Disturbing Times. With book talks and signings scheduled at historic Black churches and community bookstores, Dr. Akinyela invites Angelenos into a timely conversation on healing, resistance, and Black liberation.
A former organizer with the Center for Black Survival, the Coalition Against Police Abuse (CAPA), and the New Afrikan People’s Organization (NAPO), Dr. Akinyela’s Los Angeles roots run deep. Now a nationally respected psychotherapist and professor, he has become a leading voice in the movement to decolonize mental health and advance Black self-determination and reparations.
